National Immunization Plus Days Flagged Off in Ika North East: “Kick Polio Out of Delta State” Campaign Begins

The Ika North East Local Government Area has officially launched the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign with the theme “Kick Polio Out of Delta State”, focusing on the immunization of children aged 0–59 months against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.

The flag-off ceremony took place at the Primary Healthcare Center (PHC), Owa-Oyibu, and was led by the Executive Chairman of Ika North East LGA, Hon. Hunkamma Monday Odigwe. In his address, Hon. Odigwe reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to strengthening primary healthcare and preventing disease outbreaks through proactive immunization efforts.

“We are committed to ensuring that every child in Ika North East is protected from the scourge of polio,” Hon. Odigwe stated. “A healthy child is the foundation of a productive community, and by extension, a wealthier local government.”

He praised the efforts of healthcare workers, development partners, and community stakeholders for their collaborative role in safeguarding public health. Hon. Odigwe further expressed his heartfelt prayers for the children, hoping they grow in sound health and vitality to the glory of God.

The NIPDs initiative is a vital strategy in Nigeria’s ongoing mission to eradicate polio, especially in high-risk states like Delta. The program encourages parents and guardians to bring their children to the nearest health center or temporary immunization post to receive the free oral polio vaccine (OPV).
