
The Executive Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Monday Odigwe, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for commencing the technical processes aimed at restoring the suppressed State Assembly Constituency II in Ika North-East, Delta State.
Hon. Odigwe gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren, alongside the representative of the INEC Chairman and Director of Operations at INEC Headquarters, Mr. Isah Magaji Gumi, and other senior officials of the Commission at the newly completed Executive Chamber of the Council Secretariat.
Speaking during the engagement, the Council Chairman described the development as a historic milestone that will enhance grassroots representation, democratic inclusion, and infrastructural development across Ika North-East Local Government Area.
According to Hon. Odigwe, the restoration of the suppressed State Constituency II is a major victory for the people of Ika Nation and demonstrates Nigeria’s growing commitment to equitable political representation.
«“For us as a people, we cannot wait to have the second constituency. This will greatly impact positively on the development of Ika North-East. I am glad that this history is being made during my tenure,” Hon. Odigwe stated.»
The Chairman further assured INEC of the Council’s readiness to cooperate fully with all technical and administrative processes required to ensure the successful restoration of the constituency ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Earlier in his remarks, the Delta State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren, explained that the Commission’s visit was part of the implementation of court directives and resolutions reached during stakeholders’ engagements on the restoration of suppressed constituencies in Delta State.
He stated that the technical team was in Ika North-East to ensure strict compliance with INEC guidelines in determining ward boundaries necessary for the creation of the proposed State Constituency II.
Sir Umoren also commended the administration of Hon. Monday Odigwe for the remarkable infrastructural transformation witnessed within the Council Secretariat, particularly the newly constructed state-of-the-art Executive Complex named after the immediate past Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.

The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Joy Egbulem; Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Engr. Eric Dikenwosi; Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Tunde Etumudon; Head of Personnel Management, Mrs. F.I. Ebite; and other top government officials.
