Ika North East Local Government Area, Hon. Hunkamma Monday Odigwe, has applauded the Nigeria For Women Scale-Up Project (NFWP-SU) for selecting the LGA as one of its focus areas in Delta State. He described the initiative as a major step toward improving women empowerment, economic participation, and social development in the region.
During a courtesy visit by officials from the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. Odigwe emphasized the vital role of women in nation-building. He stressed the need for continuous investment in capacity building for women, particularly at the grassroots level. He also pledged the full support of the local government for the project and encouraged more federal and state government initiatives that prioritize the development of women.
Speaking on behalf of the project team, Mrs. Akpoguma Juliet, the State Project Coordinator, explained that the visit was to formally inform the Council of the launch of the Nigeria For Women Scale-Up Project in Delta State.
She highlighted that the NFWP-SU is a joint effort by the World Bank, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Delta State Government, designed to enhance women’s access to social capital, improve livelihood opportunities, and boost their active participation in economic activities.
The project is expected to create long-term benefits for women in Ika North East by strengthening their financial independence and supporting.
