Hon. (Amb.) Monday Odigwe – Executive Chairman, Ika North-East LGA, Delta Stat

Hon. (Amb.) Monday Hunkamma Odigwe is the current Executive Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. A visionary political leader known for prioritizing quality over quantity, his development strides are evident across Ika North-East and beyond.

Early Life and Education

Born on March 12, 1979, in Ute-Erumu, Ika North-East LGA, Hon. Odigwe hails from the respected Odigwe family of Idumuegbe Quarters. He began his education at Erumu Primary School and later attended Erumu Secondary School, where he earned his West African School Certificate with distinction.

After losing both parents shortly after completing secondary school, financial hardship temporarily delayed his academic journey. Determined to succeed, he committed himself to public service.

Public Service and Academic Pursuits

Hon. Odigwe served with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) before joining the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). His outstanding record in the police force earned him admiration from superiors who encouraged him to pursue higher education. He went on to obtain a B.Sc. (Ed.) and M.Sc. in Geography and Regional Planning from Delta State University, Abraka.

He later became a lecturer at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, before transitioning into full-time politics.

Political Leadership and Achievements

Elected as Chairman of Ika North-East LGA in 2024, Hon. Monday Odigwe aligned his leadership with the M.O.R.E Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, focusing on:

  • Infrastructure Development

1. Human Capital Development

Recognizing the importance of economic empowerment, his administration introduced a monthly N50,000 stipend for over 300 residents across various wards. This initiative has supported many to start small-scale businesses, transforming livelihoods across the LGA.

In addition to this program, his government has supported:

  • Religious bodies
  • Artisans
  • Youth career sponsorships (local and international)

2. Strengthening Local Security

Hon. Odigwe has taken proactive steps to secure Ika North-East. By fostering collaboration between:

  • The Local Government Council
  • Security agencies
  • Traditional institutions
  • Local vigilante groups

He has significantly curbed criminal activities like kidnapping, ensuring a safer environment for residents.


3. Infrastructure Development

Hon. Odigwe’s infrastructure agenda began with road palliative projects, notably the Ute-Erumu to Ndemili Road, benefiting residents of Ika South and Ndokwa West LGAs.

Key Infrastructure Projects:

  • Boji-Boji Modern Motor Park
    Located along Owa-Ekei Road, this park addresses the transportation needs of residents and commuters within and beyond the LGA. It is completed and awaiting commissioning.
  • Ute-Erumu Modern Civic Center
    Designed for community engagement, events, and recreation, this center is built with quality materials, including a steel truss roof, emphasizing durability and modern design.
  • Executive Office Complex
    Under construction at the council secretariat, this facility will house the Executive and Legislative arms of the LGA, providing a central hub for governance.
  • 1km Upper Efeizormor Road Construction, Boji-Boji Owa
    With dual drainage systems, this project eases traffic congestion on Owa-Ekei Road, DFRRI Road, and Kingsley Street, enhancing access to Ebu-Owa Market and the Modern Motor Park.

Legacy of Service

Through a combination of vision, discipline, and people-focused governance, Hon. (Amb.) Monday Odigwe continues to deliver impactful leadership that uplifts Ika North-East. His administration stands as a model for grassroots development in Delta State and Nigeria at large
